Understanding the Different Types of Industrial Heaters

Heating is an important part of the process in every industry.  Whether it is for blending two liquids or melding two substances or changing a substance from a solid to a liquid, the need for heat is there.  When it comes to manufacturing units, large-scale industrial heaters are required. Every industry needs a different style to work in the plants.  Here is a look at the four main industrial heaters that are commonly used, flanged heaters, circulation heaters, over-the-side heaters, and screw plug heaters.  This will also give a brief look into the industry applications each one is best suited for and why.

Flanged Heaters

Flanged Heaters are commonly used in the water treatmentchemical, and petroleum industries.

They typically come with an ANSI rated flange, along with other hairpin or bugle tubular elements protruding from the front of the flange.  This is a type of electric immersion heater that applies direct heat to the liquid medium.

They allow for the flexibility of using many different alloys to help resist corrosion and maintain life longevity of the flanged heating element.  They typically use steel flanges for lubricant oils, heavy and light oils, waxes as well as mildly corrosive liquids and low flow gas heating.  We can also find steel flanges in immersion heaters for water tanks.

Circulation Heaters

Circulation Heaters or Inline Heaters also use the flanged immersion mechanism.  The design is specifically used to heat liquids like heavy fuels, oils, superheated water, water-like fluids, and fuel oil.  As well as the thermal heating of gases such as hydrogen, steam, methane, and nitrogen at the target temperature.  These types of heaters include a pump that makes the liquid flow through a closed reheated pipe circuit.  When the liquid enters the pipe, it gets heated and then exits through the nozzle.  Different materials require different wattages.

You will find these heaters in petrochemical, nuclear power plants, and the oil and gas industry.

Over-the-side Heaters

These heaters are very popular due to their economic uses.  Over the side, heaters have a water-resistant body and also come in various shapes and sizes to fit the tank.  Whether you have a standard or a non-standard tank, Komax Systems can custom-design a scepter tank steam heater to fit any container in need of heating.

The flexibility and versatility of these heaters allow them to be used with different containers, no matter the size.  Their utility and flexibility are what make our scepter tank steam heaters an economical choice for those who may be a bit more budget-conscious.

Screw Plug Heaters

Manufacturers often use screw plug heaters, a type of immersion industrial heater, for small-scale applications.  Screw plug heaters are popular for their versatility and ease of installation.  They are an easy way to heat up solutions in smaller containers that also require controls.  They use screw plug heaters in the chemical industry, food and beverage industry, and HVAC systems.  Typical applications are water heating, protection of fluid from freezing, and heating process air.

They come with different operating voltages, power ratings, temperature ratings, sheath materials, and a number of elements.
