There is an overwhelmingly large number of static mixers available today, and the decision to choose the right one for industrial and commercial purposes can be extremely difficult and confusing.
Every industry requires different types of static mixers, depending upon the type of materials to be mixed. For instance, crude oil will require different equipment than waste water. That is why, buying a generic static mixer isn’t the right decision. Remember that the right consistency of the mixture depends on the mixing equipment.
Komax Systems Inc develops custom made static mixers for industry specific needs. When you come to Komax for a static mixer, make sure you have the following information:
Materials to be mixed: Static mixers are used for blending both gases and liquids, and even solids in liquids. There are different static mixers for different types of mixing.
When ordering a custom made static mixer, you must provide the manufacturer with the details of the materials that you will use the static mixer for. This includes the flowrates and other physical properties such as density and viscosity of each material to be mixed.
If the properties are similar to water, just state that they are like water. There may also be a questionnaire available for making your details clear. In some cases, operating temperature and pressure may be also required, or you can just state ‘ambient.’
Mixture quality: When specifying the pressure drop for mixture quality, do not use vague terms like ‘uniformly mixed’ or ‘thoroughly mixed’. These terms do not convert the information necessary to gauge the pressure drop.
Only use the variation coefficient (CoV), where a value of 0.05 usually indicates complete homogeneity. The variation coefficient is the best indicator of mixture quality. And without the right mixture quality, you can never have the right static mixer.
Construction details: Every manufacturing unit requires different kinds of static mixers. No two facilities are alike. Therefore, the details of construction needs to be mentioned.
Details include a diameter of the pipe and the maximum allowable pressure to drop, materials to be used for making the mixer, and the type of design. Other details include injector requirement, type of flange and rating.
