Static Mixing for Adhesives

To be effective, various kinds of modern adhesives need mix ratios to be exact and the blend to be thorough. Quite often, the proper mixing is more important than the mixing ratio.

Both types of fluid

This has given rise to various machinery for metering adhesive components and devices that ensure the uniform mixing. Static mixers are widely used in the adhesive industry. Komax static mixers are of various types, both for mixing immiscible and miscible fluids.

Adhesives are an important component for a variety of industries. From toys to food products to other stationary, adhesives are regularly used. Adhesives are also found in almost every household, used for fixing broken or loose products.

Adhesive is also known as cement, glue, paste, or mucilage. Joining PVC pipes, sticking glass panes to a window frame, and sealing food packets are some on the everyday uses of adhesives.

Industrial adhesives are also known as super glue and used for bonding various materials, such as plastics, nylon, engineered thermoplastics, metal, composites, ceramics, wood, and rubber.

Since adhesives are so highly sought after for joining things, they need to be produced with the utmost efficiency. An inline static mixer or wafer mixer is often required for the job.

Why use static mixers?

Static mixers are a popular option for a number of reasons. First of all, they need no external energy to operate. The power is supplied by the drop-in flow-rate of the mixing fluid. The flow and energy can also be adjusted. Static mixers are the next option after hand mixing. They offer the same preciseness.

Hi-pass static mixers are easy to install and use and require little space to install. They have no moving parts, consume no electricity, and have little to no maintenance costs. Because of their efficiency and ease of use, static mixers are used in the production of adhesives.

Types of static mixers

There is another advantage of static mixers – they are available in a variety of types, each suited to particular applications. There are in-line mixers, which are fit to the dispensing line itself. Static-dynamic mixers have moving parts but don’t require electricity.

Bell and bayonet mixers are disposable and made of plastic. They attach like a nozzle and are meant to be thrown away after a single use. The internal components of static mixers are either helical type or the box chamber type.

Most adhesive manufacturing plants use disposable static mixers because of the kind of materials mixed. Disposable mixers also eliminate the need for cleaning up. Komax motionless static mixer is used on a daily basis in the adhesive industry.
