Of all the needs for a non-clogging solution we’ve discovered, perhaps the most interesting came from a company in Oregon that needed it for dairy cow waste. Threemile Canyon Farms is well known for their commitment to green practices and sustainability, and it’s a pretty diverse company. Their 93,000 acres play home to crops like potatoes and livestock like 41,000 head of dairy cattle. When they decided to improve quality in their wastewater effluent and capture some of that methane for energy production, we stepped in.
Threemile Canyon Farms installed 31,000 tires at the bottom of a pit digester to help facilitate bacteria growth and make the most of their gas production. Once the solids inside the sludge reached a concentration of 7%, though, their system began to require far more maintenance than they’d ever imagined. Constant plugging occurred, and a serious lack of heat transfer began to become a problem.
Fortunately, we came in with some great ideas. They needed a sludge to sludge heat exchanger that could move the heat from the current sludge stream to the colder incoming sludge. That meant a 350,000 BTU/hr sludge heat exchanger that could move the temperature of the stream from 67 degrees to 97 degrees using only 100 gpm of hot water. We added our Klean Wall technology to the equation, and the results were nothing short of amazing.
Our Klean Wall technology utilizes Hi Pass technology, so even debris that are up to 50% of the pipe size can move through it. What’s more, though, is that it creates a turbulent flow at the boundary wall, and that means a well scavenged pipe minus the wall fouling.
