Across Canada, many provinces are calling for a cap on the amount of emissions that come from oil sands production. Nowhere is this more true than the center of the Canadian oil sector, Alberta. With an estimated oil production per month of nearly 100 million barrels, the oil sands account for more than 80% of the oil produced in Alberta as a whole.
The problem, however, is that study after study has concluded that it’s a fairly carbon intensive process, and government officials believe that capping emissions would still allow the industry to grow, but would force it to become more environmentally sustainable. Currently, there is no mandated limit.
While the companies working in the oil sands industry certainly aren’t happy about this potential cap, the simple truth is that should it ever happen, companies like Komax will be standing behind the oil sands industry with the technology to help them limit their emissions.
Currently, we work extensively with the industry providing the right technology to help them achieve their goals in the most environmentally friendly way possible. Our equipment uses far less energy and less man power than other options in the industry, and we’d be happy to help any companies find the next big solution to help limit emissions should this legislation become law.
