We’ve written in the past about just how much the right custody transfer equipment can save your company, but one news story out of Singapore recently caught our attention. As of January 1, they’ll be mandating a fuel measuring device, the first port in the world to do so.
According to the Seatrade Maritime News, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, or MPA, has been working to create new bunkering standards for the past three years. They decided to implement the use of these measuring devices to help enhance transparency and reduce malpractice and disputes. Moreover, they help to reduce bunkering time by about two hours per vessel, and they increase tanker turnarounds by nearly 1/4.
The new rules only apply to high-viscosity grade bunker fuel deliveries. Given that Singapore is the leader in bunker fuel sales, it’s little surprise that these new regulations are in place.
