Over the last two decades, Canada’s oil industry has relied on oil sands projects for real growth, and while the market seems to be slowing considerably for the most part, at least one new oil sands project is in the works thanks to Imperial Oil Limited.
Last month, IOL announced they have plans to move forward with an oil sands project that will begin construction in 2019 pending regulatory approval. While the first barrels won’t roll out of that facility until 2022, it would mean continued growth for the Canadian oil sands and the ability to keep up with this continued demand for oil around the globe.
Komax and the Oil Sands
Over the past several years, Komax has worked with a number of companies in the oil sands region. During the early oil sands boom, Komax helped to create a solution for one company in Fort McMurray, Canada. Their mixer was constantly plugging, halting bitumen production. We installed two 20″ Carbon Steel Hi-Pass Static mixers to solve the problem, and there were absolutely no plugging problems after that.
We also installed our Hi-Pass Static Mixer to handle problems in a settling pond in the same location, and it meant a low cost, maintenance free, energy efficient way to increase the reclamation process.
The Future of the Oil Sands
Growth will likely continue in the oil sands, and Komax will be there to support the industry with the best possible technology. To learn more about our products specifically designed in the oil and gas industry, contact us today.
