Despite what the headlines might say, it has never been a better time to find a job. Employers are hiring left and right and the workforce has never been more experienced and educated. While the workforce is also starting to skew younger, thanks to the Millennials, the biggest generation we’ve ever seen, there are lots of opportunities. What do future employees look for in a great place to work? Here is what the most current research suggests.
Workplaces are made up of people. It might seem obvious on the surface, but the fact is, people like to work in a place that treats them as human beings. Time and again, the “best places to work” winners emphasize employee benefits that go beyond a 401k and a health care plan. Time off for family, work flexibility and being able to interact in a positive way with management, mentors and other employees consistently tops the list.
Access to the technology/brand identification. Research suggests that when employees can really get behind the brand, they go the extra mile. It doesn’t matter if that brand is Clorox (2016’s number one place to work, by the way) or Tesla’s exciting rocket sister company, if employees are connected, they are retained. Employees cite the ability to continue to learn on the job as a strong factor for staying with an employer.
The business puts safety first and listens to employees. Having a safe place to work is a basic need many employees expressed. Some companies splash out on employee gyms, personal trainers, chiropractors and physical therapists, etc. But a business doesn’t have to fit in all those perks for employees to notice. Sometimes the solution is far simpler than engaging a massage therapist.
One of the simplest ways to offer your employees a safer and more productive workspace is to look at your equipment. A carbon steel static mixer, for example, not only streamlines the mixing process and improves efficiency, but reduces noise and vibration – critical in any industry known for hearing damage issues and other physical concerns.
