Komax’s large scale channel mixers are ideal in today’s water treatment plants. The population of many of cities throughout the United States is on the rise, and that’s led to one major problem – the need for bigger and better water treatment facilities. Komax is stepping in to help in many cases.
A Closer Look At A Case Study
When the Val Vista Water Treatment Plant, jointly owned by the cities of Phoenix and Mesa, needed to expand their water treatment plant, the turned to us when they realized they needed a high-efficiency, low-cost mixing solution.
With just 8 feet of width to work with, we knew we had to get creative. So, we designed a mixer with two different units, each treated with plasite to help prevent corrosion over the years. It flows at a rate of 140 million gallons a day and requires just five total seconds of mixing time.
After the water flows through the motionless mixer, it hits a flocculation basin that allows the chemicals and water to remain for approximately a half hour. From there, it’s fed to another basin where the floc settles out, then is fed through dual media bed filters of anthracite and sand. From there, it’s held in reserve until required.
The Bottom Line
Our large scale channel mixers are ideal in any water treatment facility, and at Val Vista, the install has been a huge success. Every one of these that we design are built to offer real benefits like a low pressure drop, chemical injection through a premixing dilution grid, and 98% mixing efficiency.
