Yogurt has become very popular in recent years and this popularity has meant that the yogurt industry has had to increase production and at the same time keep or even increase the quality of their product. In the past the mixing and blending of milk, yogurt cultures, flavorings and additives was accomplished by a batch-by-batch process that involved having to use large and expensive containers and having to use an extremely large work force. This added a great deal of cost to the making of yogurt.
Komax Systems was contacted by Milchof Herne, a manufacturer of yogurt that was located in Herne, West Germany. They were tired of making yogurt on a batch-by-batch basis, which meant needing to expend high costs in equipment, labor, energy and time. After a bit of experimentation with their system, Komax Systems came upon the idea of using metering pumps and our inline static mixers to manufacture the yogurt. With this idea, Milchof Herne was able to go from batch-by-batch processing of their yogurt to continual production. In addition to that, the client was able to reduce their operating costs, material costs and this was all due to the innovation and ingenuity of Komax. They were also now able to increase production to up to about 1300 liters of yogurt an hour.
Those weren’t the only benefits, though. There was another great benefit that was a bit unexpected. By using metering pumps and our inline static mixers, the yogurt came out decidedly better tasting and had better much better quality. Each container was blended more evenly, was more exact, was more sanitary since it was made in a totally enclosed system and the new process did away with the problems of fruits and additives settling in the yogurt because the yogurt remained constantly on the move throughout the mixing process up until it was packaged.
Because of the great success that was achieved by this new method of manufacturing yogurt, Milchof Herne was extremely satisfied and abandoned the process of batch-by-batch production and continued with making their yogurt the Komax Systems way.
