Adding animal waste to a digester works best when the inputs are heated prior to entering the digester. A great way to make this self-sufficient is to use effluent from the digester to heat incoming sludge by heat exchange. Previous methods have used spiral mixers surrounding the outside of the pipe that stream warm fluid, but many of these were rendered ineffective because of their susceptibility to clogging. Komax’s solution incorporates a precision environment between the internal flow and outer flow in these two ways:
1-Incoming Cold Inputs: Dairy cow waste gets piped through a Komax Hi-Pass Mixer, thus generating turbulent flow with pipe’s inner walls. This greatly improves heat transfer and also leads to no clogging or buildup.
2-Outer Shell Heat Source: The outer shell liquid goes through Komax’s Non-Clog spiral, which also increases liquid turbulence and promotes heat transfer. This can be either heated water or exiting effluent from the digester, allowing for a recycling of heat.
