In a variety of settings, a plant will rely on acid injection to help aid the overall process. In cases like those, a good static mixer is an absolute must, but often not all static mixers can handle the corrosion typically caused in situations like those. Fortunately, our lined static mixers can, and they’ve done so in many cases in the past.
The Ideal Power Plant Addition
A Utah based energy company typically uses a 98% solution of concentrated sulfuric acid to help neutralize the demineralization stream of waste water that comes from their plant. Before they called Komax, though, they were using a neutralization tank with a propeller mixer installed as well as a secondary tank to help dilute the concentration of the acid. The two tanks took up an extensive amount of space, though, nearly 400 square feet, and the mixers themselves were a power drain to run. Maintenance costs were extensive as well, running nearly $25,000 every year.
Komax, though, came up with a much better system for the company. We replaced the neutralization tanks with a three inch Teflon lined static mixer in the pipe. We added an injection port to directly add the sulfuric acid to the mix, and placed a pH probe downstream to offer immediate feedback. The results were stunning. Energy costs were quite a bit lower, maintenance was almost a thing of the past, and the space requirements were far smaller than that of the original system.
