Any opportunity to save energy is usually a welcome opportunity. After all, given how volatile the oil market can be, many businesses have to adjust their own profits based on their energy inputs. But just how far would you go in order to “go green?” One well known company – BMW – looks to shift all external power to renewable energy by 2020. Their secret? Cows!
This isn’t the first unusual power source BMW has used. One plant in South Africa runs on cow dung and chicken droppings. Other sources include wind turbines in Germany or methane gas from a landfill in the United States. This matches BMW’s attempt at creating a suite of electric vehicles and changing the driving landscape.
Komax has long been a proponent of alternative energy sources while at the same time supporting the need for fossil fuels. We have a presence in the biofuel industry and have some important products that will help any industry seeking alternative forms of energy. Our Klean-Wall Heat Exchanger, for example, is 300% more efficient than a standard slurry heater, tube and shell exchangers. Retention time is reduced by as much as 50%! This kind of performance is even more important for alternative fuel sources.
Some industries have difficulty with biofuel production because the debris being converted to energy is difficult to work with. Here, too, the Komax Klean-Wall can pass debris as much as half of the diameter of the pipe without plugging, and the high level of turbulence means that sludge is constantly scavaging the wall surface to reduce or totally eliminate fouling. Because of the shearing and sludge mixing, the bacteriological activity is greatly increased, leading to better digestion.
Why not see how Komax can help you make the leap into greener energy with our range of biofuels products?
