A new report by the German market research company Ceresana has suggested that the demand for specialized engineered plastics is only going to continue increasing in the next few years. The report suggested that nearly 20.3 million tons of specialized plastics were sold in 2015, with ABS being the most frequently used engineered plastic. Much of it is used and processed in the Asia-Pacific region.
Wonder where all of that plastic is going? Much of it goes to transportation needs, like busses, cars, and other kinds of vehicles. The report indicated that in upcoming years, much more of the consumed plastics will go to that sector as new technology allows many car manufacturers to use an increased amount of plastic. More than that, though, designers of transportation of all types, including airliners, are looking to create lower costs wherever possible, and plastics can do that.
The rest of it goes to the consumer goods sector. A wide range of products today utilizes plastics, including furniture, household items, and even toys. Packaging accounts for quite a bit of plastics usage as well.
At Komax, we offer several technologies to help support the growing plastics industry. Our ultra mixer is the perfect way to ensure product dispersion. Our TEDD, or Thermal Equalization and Distribution Device, can help reduce the wide variation that often occurs in temperature across a melt stream. Our SIDD, or Special Introduction and Distribution Device, was specifically designed to help introduce and mix colorants into a melt stream. All of these technologies add up to one thing – a more successful process when it comes to manufacturing plastics. Interested in learning more? Contact us today!
