We live in a more connected world than ever before, and the ability to know what is going on around the globe has never been higher. With greater awareness comes greater corporate responsibility to ensure that our processes and procedures meet environmental standards and don’t damage the spaces where we live. Fortunately, Komax is ready to help when it comes to protecting the environment.
The benefits of reducing issues like acids in our environment are clear. Local water tables, for example, are highly susceptible to contamination. Our drinking water must be preserved. Power plants play a big role in the safety of our environment and the processes plants use, such as acid injection techniques, can have a dramatic effect on the surrounding area.
Power plants use a lot of processes that have a direct impact on the environment. For example, wastewater is generated from the ion exchange process used to demineralize the boiler feed water. Acid added to the stream is critical, since regulations require that any released water be almost completely neutral in acidity. The neutralization process requires huge tanks, propeller mixers and a drain on energy consumption. They also required near constant maintenance.
New technology, though, like the kind Komax offers, makes the process more energy efficient – and safe. Our 3-inch Teflon lined inline static mixer allows direct injection of sulfuric acid into the stream. Gone are the propellers of older days. With fewer moving parts and direct injection, mixing is more energy efficient. A pH probe can be put just downstream to see results nearly immediately. The newer mixers are also smaller, doing the job of larger tanks but taking less energy and space in the process.
As environmental concerns continue to mount, keeping production as clean as possible will be an important piece of the corporate puzzle in the coming years. Mixers in situations like this create environmental safety and a consistent product!
