Choosing The Right Static Mixer

A static mixer has applications in various industries to mix various fluids. The devices are known for their capabilities of mixing even gas streams as well as combinations of gas and liquid.

There are several mixers available in the market considering the needs of the industry and the type of mixing required. The devices produce both axial and radial flow with its helical configuration. It also creates ideal conditions for heat transfer and blends liquids based on the characteristics of viscosity.

Interestingly, the mixers are available in different sizes and make according to the needs of various industries. The size generally ranges from 6 mm to 6 meters in diameter and made from stainless steel, Teflon, PVC, polyacetal, and more.

Tips to Choose the Right Mixer

Since there are many different types of mixers available on the market, choosing the right static mixer is a time-consuming job. While some liquids need highly efficient mixing capabilities to ensure proper mixing, some others need a lower level of mixing capabilities. For instance, Triple Action Mixers from Komax offers highest level of mixing considering other static mixers.

Also, people can choose their mixers based on application. There are two categories of motionless static mixer available on the market, and that are for MMD equipment and to use with cartridge and handheld dispensers.

The flow rate is an important factor the users should consider while choosing mixers for MMD and handheld cartridge systems. Also, the users should calculate the pressure needed for keeping the liquids flowing at an ideal rate in the application.

Physical Aspects

The users should also note the special attachments, number of elements, and more as these aspects can affect the efficiency of the adhesive operation. A number of questions should be asked to find the appropriate mixer:

  • Is the outlet orifice of the mixer has the right size to pull out the correct quantity of adhesive?
  • What number of mixing elements and interior diameter would create appropriate flow rate?
  • Has the mixer comes with the appropriate length to correctly fit in the application?
  • Is the application require any specialized attachment?
  • What amount of content volume waste can the application afford?
  • Is the mixer need a shroud and does that help with the equipment positioning?

The users can also test with the static mixer and see whether the device is accurately mixing the liquids based on the needs. While doing so, they should consider the financial and technical implications to make wise decisions.
