Plant refinement is an ongoing process as new technologies become available and as new threats are uncovered. Any products that can do the job more efficiently and with an eye toward the long-view, life of the plant are welcome additions. In fact, sometimes the better product actually turns out to be the most cost effective one as well. This is certainly the case with a Komax LNG Desuperheater – the perfect option for energy.
The need for a well-made, efficient steam desuperheater is critical. Once the process has begun and the superheated material is ready, cooling it to the proper temperature is a matter of skill and time. The longer the process takes, the more energy is lost or wasted. The Komax model has integrated the Equalizer mixing module, which has a low pressure injection spray nozzle positioned upstream. This has the effect of creating a cone of water that reverses the direction of the stream and forcing it downstream through the module, reducing the superheated steam to the proper temperature nearly instantaneously.
The advantages of this are numerous. Besides saving in terms of time and energy, the layout of the desuperheater means that it requires very little maintenance, has low vibration and makes nearly no noise, meaning it will not disrupt or destroy other parts of the plant (or your workers’ hearing). Because cooling happens almost instantly, there is no need for long pipe length, saving critical space while delivering highly accurate temperature control. Pipes are also not subject to thermal cycling fatigue, which can create less maintenance down the road.
LNG plants are considered an efficient and clean source of energy, and so governments are looking to put more resources into their development. In order to make sure they work at peak capacity –and safely – they also need to have quality desuperheaters. Komax stands ready to help.
