HEAT EXCHANGERS INCORPORATING KOMAX STATIC MIXING ELEMENTS

Komax Systems has been designing and manufacturing specialized Shell and Tube heat exchangers that incorporate Komax static mixers for the plastic and rubber industries for 20 years. These advanced heat exchangers heat products with viscosities of over ten-million centipoise. Our patented tube side mixing elements dramatically improve heat transfer and eliminate thermal damage to the product.

Over the last three years Komax perfected a special non-plugging, low pressure drop static mixer design for low viscosity products that are less than one hundred centipoise.

By jacketing these special static mixers, an ultra-efficient shell-and-tube heat exchanger was developed. The size of the heat exchanger for a specific heating application was dramatically reduced due to the mixing technology. The turbulence created by the Komax static mixing elements removes the stagnant internal film on the heat exchanger's pipe wall. It is this zero-velocity internal film that prevents high heat transfer in standard shell and tube designs. By removing this internal film with high turbulence created by the internal static mixing elements Komax Systems has developed a highly efficient and smaller heat exchanger for a given heating application.

In the Komax heat exchangers, heat transfer improvements of up to 300% have been documented resulting in reducing the heat exchanger size by two thirds. The static mixer turbulence on the piping wall provides a self cleaning action since the velocity at the pipe wall is no longer zero.

Komax shell and tube heat exchangers are offered in standard piping materials as well as exotic alloys that resist highly corrosive liquids.  

 

 

 

MODEL OF KOMAX SYSTEMS PATENTED HI-PASS STATIC MIXING ELEMENTS

Each Jacketed Heat Exchanger tube contains a series of Hi-Pass elements. The low pressure drop Hi-pass elements will pass a solid object one third of the inside diameter of the heat exchangers tubes. All edges and welds are smoothed to prevent material hang-up and clogging.
